In the ‘very beginning’, Royal Liver was founded as the Liverpool Lyver Burial Society by a group of local men in a public house. Its aim was to provide a burial fund during what was a time of severe hardship for many in the city.
As Liverpool grew, so did Royal Liver. The Society's history is inextricably linked to the evolution of the city. This probably explains why Royal Liver has such iconic status in Liverpool; developing together – through the good times and the bad – to where we are today, proud leaders and innovators.
We've created a website that tells the story of Royal Liver. The site has been designed for everyone; from local schoolchildren in Liverpool to architectural historians around the world.
We’ve designed the site to be as accessible as possible. It includes a wealth of information all of which is presented in a way that is both easy to understand yet very detailed.
You can see the site for yourself at http://history.royalliverassurance.com/. Take some time to look around it and find out more about Royal Liver, its fascinating history, groundbreaking headquarters and world-famous Liver Birds.
