Poetry of Place began in 2002, aiming to raise levels of literacy in Liverpool by engaging young people and fostering their interest in creative writing.
Entrants, aged 11 to 14-years old, write poems during the summer about their favourite Liverpool places and the public chooses the winners by voting via the Royal Liver website. 24 poems have been shortlisted this year.
In no particular order, the first 12 shortlisted poems are listed below. Click here for the other 12 shortlisted poems. To vote for your favourite, simply e-mail Jessica Green at Royal Liver - tell her which is your favourite poem. Voting closes on Friday, 30 October 2009 and the winners will be announced on Tuesday, 24 November 2009.
